PAFP Postgraduate Course
Friday, October 27, 2006
Last Friday and Saturday (October 20 and 21), the Philippine Academy of Family Physicians, Inc. (PAFP), Pangasinan chapter had its 9th Postgraduate Course at Leisure Coast Resort, Bonuan Boquig, Dagupan City. There were 210 delegates who came not only from Pangasinan but also from neighboring provinces like La Union and Benguet, and also from far provinces like Tarlac, and Zambales. A few came from Quezon City.
This year's theme was: Modern and Alternative Medicine: A prospective look of Family Physicians and Allied Professionals. It was very timely and it aimed to bridge the gap between alternative and modern medicine.
Three guests speakers were invited to grace the occasion: Dr. Wilfrido Simbul, the PAFP Regional Director for Luzon; Dr. Edna Lao, the President of PCAM (Philippine College for Advancement of Medicine); and Dr. Anna de Guzman, the assistant provincial health officer in Pangasinan. Their talk centered mostly on the theme. There is a plan of incorporating alternative medicine in the medical corriculum. It this pushes through then the topic will be under Family Medicine.
What made this year's Postgraduate Course different from the previous years' was that Allied Professionals like Caregivers, Midwives, and Nurses were also invited. They were there for the entire 2-day activity. Intermission numbers were featured in the afternoon of the first day before the dinner symposium. Medical representatives from SV Moore and Han Seo Pharma rendered a dance number. Mix Martial Arts demonstration were rendered by Master Roy and company. Different techniques were shown to counteract hold-up scenarios to the pleasure of the viewing audience. It was really a very successful event.
